Welcome to Olives and Bananas

Located in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada overlooking the magnificent Lake Superior.

Inspired by nature, whimsy, art, and books, my needlefelted sculptures hope to make you smile and wonder.

"So what does the name mean?" is a question I expected with a business name like Olives and Bananas.

It actually has a lot of meaning.

It's my three children: Oliver, Finn, and Hannah.

Our middle son, Finn, died unexpectedly when he was just 11 days old. Having and losing Finn changed everything.
I had already found crafting as therapy through the decline and loss of my mother to breast cancer. We had spend hours with her friends piled on her bed with yarn and patterns (and wine). She found knitting helped with the neuropathy in her fingers from chemo. In her final year she made a large knitted sock monkey, who still lives with one of her best friends.

After losing Finn I turned to wool, hooks, and needles, and for months sat here quietly making things. In many ways that's what I still do.

Olives and Bananas came to me after the birth of our ‪‎rainbow baby,‬ Oliver. Whenever I say his name together with Hannah's I laugh and think of olives and bananas. Finn is my little ‪dragonfly‬ 💙 Always nearby, always magical.

I offer for sale: needle felting kits, merino wool (21.5 micron top merino from Ashland Bay), felting supplies, and felting needles.

I am also available to host wokshops. I have Sunday afternoons and Thursday evenings reserved for workshops. I teach in my home, in a little detached sunroom studio, but am also available to come to you.

My felting kits include everythig you need to create the whole project. Each kit supplies you with a foam work surface, a variety pack of felting needles, leather finger protectors, thread, needles, and beads for eyes, photographic instructions, and individual extras for different projects.
